Composite stone: composition, test results and comparison

MarbleCo is a composite stone based on natural mineral raw materials, with binders and processing additives. It is series-produced as large-format slabs.

This page covers composition and certification, laboratory test results, a comparison with natural stone and porcelain stoneware, and where the material is used.

Composition and certification

MarbleCo composite stone is made from mineral components with binders and processing additives. This composition combines the look of natural stone with more consistent performance and wide scope for fabrication. The manufacturer is ART MARBLECO MCHJ. Production is in-house and fully controlled, from raw material preparation to the finished product.

The products are certified under the National Certification System of the Republic of Uzbekistan as conforming to GOST 24099-2013. Certificate UZ.SMT-01-0089-120963-v1 is valid until 11 November 2028 and covers four types of decorative slabs based on natural stone: wall and floor slabs, each in resin-based and cement-based versions.

Test results

Slab samples were tested at the TMSITI laboratory in 2026, and the results are set out in test reports No. 3, 4 and 5. Compressive and flexural strength, water absorption, average density, abrasion loss and frost resistance were determined to GOST 30629-2011, GOST 27180-2019 and GOST 7025-91. The full reports can be opened as PDFs on the Certification page.

Resin-based samples showed a compressive strength of 103–112 MPa, flexural strength of 13–28 MPa and water absorption of 0.1–0.2%. For the cement-based sample the figures were 67 MPa, 9 MPa and 0.6%, with an abrasion loss of 1.0 g/cm² against 0.3 g/cm² for the resin-based samples. All samples had an average density of 2.5 g/cm³ and frost resistance of 50 cycles.

Composite or natural stone

Natural stone is rock with a pattern formed by nature. If a project calls specifically for natural rock, it is the logical choice. MarbleCo does not make natural stone: it produces composite stone, including marble-look and terrazzo designs.

Composite stone has other qualities: a more controlled structure and consistent decorative characteristics. Slabs measuring 3040 × 1840 mm and 14–80 mm thick come in 21 textures, including marble-look and terrazzo, with a choice of five surface finishes. Parts are cut from the slabs to custom dimensions, and their edges are finished.

Composite stone or porcelain stoneware

Porcelain stoneware is used to cover walls and floors. If a project does not call for complex parts, edge finishing or bespoke architectural solutions, porcelain may well be enough.

Composite stone offers more scope for machining, complex parts and bespoke architectural solutions. The stone can be cut straight or to a shaped profile; edges and ends can be finished, chamfers made at various angles and holes cut. Slabs 14–80 mm thick are made into worktops, stair treads, window sills and bar counters.

Where composite stone is used

MarbleCo stone is used on facades, in halls and entrances, in commercial spaces and kitchens, and in bathrooms and washrooms. The slabs are made into wall and facade panels, floor slabs, stair treads, window sills, worktops, bar counters, reception desks and furniture parts.
